A small group of Ogden women had the courage and commitment to build a caring community by organizing the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) in 1945. It was their vision to provide programs for women, youth and new people moving to Ogden. Today, Your Community Connection is a model non-profit organization serving the needs of the community.
1950s - The focus of the Ogden YWCA during this time was providing training classes and social activities for young women. A Y-Teen youth membership program flourished, social and recreational activities for youth were offered.
1970s - During this time, YWCA was restructured to meet the needs of the community by offering necessary social services and crisis intervention programs. The Rape Crisis Program, which provided counseling and advocacy services for sexual assault survivors, and 24 hour Crisis Hotline began in 1977. The following year, the Womens Crisis Center became operational to provide emergency short-term housing for female victims of domestic violence and their children, as well as counseling and support groups. The Child Care Center opened in 1979 to provide licensed childcare services for YWCA clients.
1990s - New changes at YCC continued to expand social services and programs for Northern Utah at-risk individuals. A Transitional Housing Program for homeless families was implemented thanks to a Housing & Urban Development (HUD) grant. The "Women of the Year" awards were renamed the "Spirit of the American Woman" awards and were expanded to include men and organizations. A Family Enrichment Center was added to provide services including self-esteem classes for children from homes of violence or who had been abused and life skills training for parents.
Today - Since 1945, Your Community Connection has provided vital community services to families and individuals living in Northern Utah. Over the years, the role YCC would play within the community has expanded thanks to the dedication and vision of our founders. Reinvented many times, YCC has remained a mission-directed, volunteer-driven, community-based organization.
