Protective Orders 101
A protective order is a civil court order designed to keep your abuser from hurting you anymore. There are two types of protective orders. The first is called an ex parte protective order, which is designed to give you immediate protection. The second type is referred to simply as a protective order. Once a judge reviews your petition a sheriff will serve the forms to the respondent and the order can be enforced by the police. There will then be a hearing in front of a judge, you MUST appear at the hearing if you want the order of protection to continue.
The YCC can assist you with filling out a protective order; there is NO fee for filing or service of a protective order in Utah.
