What is Domestic Violence?

Domestic violence is a pattern of behaviors used by one partner to maintain power and control over another partner in an intimate relationship. It includes physical harm, emotional and verbal abuse,  financial abuse, sexual abuse, or any use of power and control.

You should never be afraid of an intimate partner, and they should never prevent you from doing what you wish, or force you to behave in a way you do not want. Despite domestic violence affecting millions of individuals each year, it is never normal, and never okay.

YCC Family Crisis Center does not discriminate in the delivery of services or benefits based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, age, sexual orientation or gender identity.

Inside Utah’s Domestic Violence Crisis

  • From July 1, 2023 to May 31, 2024, 144 agencies submitted 10,189 LAPs (Lethality Assessment Protocol), with 63% (6,454) assessed as “potentially lethal” in Utah.
  • In 2023, 1 in 5 Utah teens were harmed by someone they were dating. Of teens who have experienced teen dating violence, only 33% talked to a trusted adult about it.
  • 1 in 3 Utah women will experience some form of domestic violence in their lifetime.
  • Less than 15% of Utahns who experienced intimate partner violence (IPV) reached out for help.
